Make sure your engraving tags are durable

Engraving tags are used widely across many sectors and it is very important to use a material that you have the capability to engrave but a material that will also withstand the environment that you wish to subject it to.

Generally anodised aluminium is fantastic for use in an environment that may be subjected to external elements such as wind, rain and sunshine. Our natural or silver aluminium tags can be used with a machine to reveal detail that is engraved into them. Our coloured aluminium blanks are anodised which means that they have been electrically charged before we print the requested coloured ink into the pores of the metal. The aluminium is then sealed to lock the ink beneath the anodic layer. This creates a barrier for the ink. Using a bold colour on the plate creates a good contrast against the engraved detail which is why many of our customers choose coloured plates as they feel it makes their plates stand out from the crowd.

Sometimes an environment requires a stainless steel tag to be used, especially within the refrigeration and catering market sector. A 304 stainless steel blank tag is ideal for use within the food market and engraving the plate is one of the safer ways to mark it.

An alternative would be to use 316 stainless steel. This is commonly used within the marine and offshore markets but also comes in useful for oil and gas applications. Engraving a 316 stainless steel tag would be a great way to ensure that your detail will be visible for many many years to come.
